My mom has cancer

My mom has cancer. Maybe your mom has cancer, too. Or your dad, or sister, or best friend, or someone you used to work for. Maybe it’s something they will have for the rest of their lives, or it’s something that’s already in the past because they’re in remission. Maybe you are thinking of the person you knew who had cancer and a thousand memories flood back from when they were still in your life. I have learned to hold space for each of these scenarios, but the one that carries the most weight is that the woman who raised me has cancer.
